Here Are Some of the Best Bollywood Remakes of Blockbuster Movies

Bollywood has produced some stellar movies over the years. While some have originated from the Indian filmmakers’ minds, some have been adaptations of famous Hollywood movies. Romance, thrillers, and legal dramas, Bollywood has tapped into all genres and come up with some spectacular remakes! Here’s a list of some of the most well-known adaptations in Bollywood.

Forrest Gump – Laal Singh Chaddha

Probably the most popular of all Bollywood remakes, Laal Singh Chaddha is the Indian version of the mega-famous favorite Forrest Gump.

Instead of the southern simple boy Forrest, aka Tom Hanks, we have Aamir Khan, Laal. The audience highly anticipated the movie, as it was almost 14 years in the making. Kareena Kapoor Khan starred opposite Aamir in this 2022 release.

Stepmom – We Are Family

The first official remake in Bollywood, We Are Family, was released under Karan Johar’s Dharma Productions. It was the first movie in Bollywood made by buying the movie’s rights instead of making something similar.

The Stepmom remake had Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kajol in the roles of the two mothers in the movie, with Arjun Rampal playing the husband. The family drama didn’t perform as well in India as the original version did, but it’s an emotional story.

The Italian Job – Players

The 2012 Bollywood movie Players was a remake of the 2003 superhit The Italian Job. The film follows players who plan to conduct a grand-scale robbery but are betrayed by one of their own.

In the original version, Abhishek Bachchan portrays the role of Charlie, played by Mark Wahlberg. The makers of the Indian version went so far as to get the original actors to promote the movie internationally!

Knight and Day – Bang Bang

Bang Bang is an example of a successful remake. The 2014 movie starring Katrina Kaif and Hrithik Roshan has been adapted from the Hollywood action hit Knight and Day. Kaif and Roshan take over the roles of Cameron Diaz and Tom Cruise, respectively.
