The Italian luxury fashion house, the same one that takes great pride in being a leading name in the field of leather handbags, shoes, travel accessories, perfumes, and more, may have chewed off more than it can swallow.
While many people are struggling to gather enough cash to pay their rent and keep a roof over their heads, Prada was assessing its financial status and consequently, came up with a product you never knew you didn’t need.
Their newest accessory is a 2.3-inch paperclip that is made of polished sterling silver, sold for approximately $187. The paperclip also has the company name and logo carved on its side and is designed to clip one’s money together.
After news hit the fan of the latest most luxurious and controversial item to hit Barneys.com, Twitter users took advantage of their social media platform to stress precisely how they felt on the matter. “$185 for a paperclip? This thing better be able to hold my life together,” one user wrote. Another added, “By the time I buy the paperclip, there won’t be enough for it to hold.”
Others looked at things from a different perspective and shared that they daydream of being able to afford such a product: “Prada made a $185 paperclip, that is the level of extra I strive to be,” a fellow Twitter user wrote.
This paperclip-shaped money clip may have seemed too extravagant for some shoppers, who found it hard to justify such a price for an item that is essentially meant to hold your money together, but as the common saying taught in business school goes, “for every seller there is a buyer.”
If one were highly invested in buying the prestigious paperclip with the engraved Prada logo, they just might be in luck, since every once in a while Barney puts price-slimming discounts on its various products.
