With everything going on in the world right now, it should come as no surprise to learn that many fashion houses are trying to get to grips with their “new normal.” With Fashion Weeks being canceled or transformed into virtual events, models unable to fly in for photoshoots, and workers doing their bit from their home offices, things have changed slightly. However, change isn’t always a bad thing, and this Gucci launch is a true testament to that.
A New Collection
Last week, Gucci released a brand new collection that fashion lovers across the world had been waiting for. This “Epilogue” collection is due to hit the shelves in the Fall, but will focus on seasonless styles that are also completely genderless. This marks a turning point within the brand’s ethos, and there’s no doubt about the fact that the clothes went down a storm. Yet, what caused even more of a commotion was the way in which this new collection debuted.
Abandoning The Catwalk
Normally, a new Gucci collection would mean a new Gucci catwalk event. However, this wasn’t a possibility at this point in history. They didn’t want to risk large crowds at one event, they didn’t want to put the health of any potential models at risk, and they didn’t want to stunt the progress that is being made across the world. So, creative director Alessandro Michele had to come up with another idea.
Models And Designers
This new idea showcased the designers of these clothes in a whole new light. Normally, we would be able to look online to see who brought this collection into the world – but Alessandro decided to really give them their chance to shine. That’s because eagle-eyed fashion fans were able to log into a 12-hour live stream of this collection debut that showed photos and behind-the-scenes photos of the actual designers modeling their designs.
This is pretty awesome, right?
